SELEX Galileo, a Finmeccanica Company, has entered into a Joint Venture (JV) with Al Safwa Security and Defence Systems Co, a registered Kuwaiti company with broad capabilities in defence and security services. The venture will employ and train local staff and operate independently with its own management.

The JV will provide defence services to the Kuwait Armed Forces, initially in the field of Electronic Warfare (EW). SELEX Galileo is Europe’s leading provider of Electronic Warfare systems and will bring to the JV a number of advanced proprietary EW products such as the SEER Radar Warning Receiver (RWR) and SAGE Electronic Support Measures (ESM); in addition to our Helicopter Integrated Defensive Aids System (HIDAS) already in service with the Kuwaiti Air Force’s AH64-D Apache helicopters.

The collaboration will also offer Electronic Warfare Operational Support (EWOS) to ensure that Kuwait’s Armed Forces are able to customise and get the most out of their EW systems.

The handover of the signed agreements between Retired General Ali Al Foudari, Deputy General Manager Al-Safwa and Alec Gribble, SELEX Galileo was witnessed by Paul Gaskell, Chargé d’Affaire, British Embassy and Dr Tarek Chazli, Deputy Head, Italian Embassy.

Alec Gribble, General Manager of the joint venture said: "I am looking forward to firmly establishing the Joint Venture company and building on our current strong relationship with the Kuwait Air Force. We aim to provide a valuable service to the Kuwait Air Force and, subsequently, to the whole of the Kuwait Armed Forces. I believe that this partnership, using the unique skill sets of SELEX Galileo and Al-Safwa, can assist the Kuwait Armed Forces enhance their capabilities."
