Originally designed to solve the issue of information dissemination and management on the battlefield, DHS Systems introduced its deployable command and control equipment (DC2E) to its DRASH product line in 2005.

Since then, DC2E has provided military personnel around the globe with portable, reliable and convenient communications technology, most notably the medium and large front/rear projection screen displays. However, a new uniquely designed DC2E J series side mounted large screen display system will also be available as an option.

The newest addition to the line of DC2E display systems will improve mobility throughout a DRASH shelter. Whereas the front/rear DC2E displays are set up along the width of the shelter, the J Series side mounted large screen display system is intended for the side walls of the shelter. Such a design will add free space to the shelter’s length, which will ultimately facilitate movement of personnel and equipment throughout the shelter.

It will also improve accessibility to certain areas of the shelter system that were previously difficult to reach. "The J Shelter can be viewed as a rectangular box. So when the front/rear display system is at either the front or back end of the shelter, it prohibits military from connecting other J Shelters at those ends. Ultimately, the J Series side mounted display system improves mobility so military personnel have the option of connecting various shelters without restriction," says Curtis Nail, product manager for the DC2E Systems.

Like the DC2E medium and large front/rear screen displays, the new display will include a truss, a screen, projectors and cables that fit into four cases. Large handles, purge valves and wheels on one end of each of the cases, are all included to make the system easily transportable.

Other features of the DC2E J Series side mounted large screen display vary slightly from those of the front/rear displays. The native resolution is 1920 x 1080 (HD) as opposed to 1400 x 1050. However, it will still accept resolutions from 640 x 480 through 1920 x 1200. Lamp life for this system is 2000/2250 (max typical) and 2500/3000 (eco mode).

Front projection configuration has three independent viewing areas of a 50in x 89in x 102in diagonal compared to the 54in x 72in x 90in diagonal that makes up the large screen display. Each projector weighs only 8 lbs. and has a low noise level of only 28 dB (A). Images are projected at least 44in above the floor enabling easier viewing from all areas of the tactical operations center. Three 1080p HD DLP zoom lens projectors are prepared for 24/7 operation with long life mechanical elements including magnesium and ceramics, as well as over specified fans and color wheels.

To endure harsh environments the system is equipped with fully sealed optical architecture that ensures faultless operation. A lightweight 2in tube frame structure with rugged black coating supports projectors and screens. Adjustable feet are also included for varying or uneven terrain.

Setup time for entire system is less than 30 minutes with the help of four military personnel. No tools required.
