Medical Coaches Inc. and AccSys Technologies Partner to Produce First Mobile Linear Accelerator Trailer

Philadelphia, PA; June 29, 2004 – AccSys Technology, Inc. (AccSys) a privately held California corporation with its plant and corporate headquarters in Pleasanton, California, has established itself as a leader in the commercialization and continuing development of ion linac technology; in conjunction with Medical Coaches Inc., a highly specialized manufacturer of sophisticated mobile medical trailers, Certified to ISO 9000, based in Oneonta, New York; announced today they have completed the manufacture of the industry’s first-ever Mobile Linear Accelerator unit which utilizes AccSys Technologies PULSAR™ system.

The PULSAR™ system is a reliable, low-cost solution to the growing need for positron emitting isotopes and tracers, particularly for the fluorine-18 used to produce FDG. Positron tracers such as FDG are used for diagnostic testing in oncology, cardiology and neurology.

The high-beam current capability results in high isotope production rates and the system’s modular design allows the customer to begin production with a low initial capital investment.

Hospitals will now have two distinct benefits with the Mobile Linear Accelerator:

  • Access to locally produced radio isotopes at a minimal capital investment
  • The ability to perform highly specialized cancer screening that require isotopes with an extremely short half life

According to Richard Mattice, Vice President of Engineering at Medical Coaches, “We started working on this project in December of 1999. Many thought this concept would never become a reality, but Dr. Robert Hamm, President and CEO of AccSys Technologies proved them wrong with his perseverance determination to see this project to completion.”

On a side note: Hitachi, Ltd. (TSE: 6501, NYSE: HIT, ‘Hitachi’) announced that it has acquired an eighty percent (80%) stake in AccSys Technology, Inc., (AccSys). Hitachi, Ltd., headquartered in Tokyo, Japan, is one of the world’s leading global electronics companies, with fiscal 2001 (ended March 31, 2002) consolidated sales of 7,993 billion yen ($60.1 billion*). The company manufactures and markets a wide range of products, including computers, semiconductors, consumer products and power and industrial equipment.
