Eurosatory 2012, 11-15 June 2012, provides Iveco Defence Vehicles with the opportunity to acquaint both existing customers and other visitors with the most recent developments in our product range and our latest commercial successes.
In response to changing threats and the evolving operational environment, Iveco Defence Vehicles has worked with KMW to develop a medium weight protected platform with the payload, protection, capacity and mobility to undertake a range of specialist applications, such as route clearance and casualty treatment. Available in 4 x 4 and 6 x 6 models, the MPV design is based on the Iveco Trakker military off-the-shelf truck chassis, combined with a ballistic steel protected crew cell.
The MPV ambulance /intensive treatment unit on display offers increased space and improved ergonomics over the standard MPV 4×4 platform, optimising the casualty treatment area. The Italian Army has already ordered 12 ambulance variant MPV’s (named VTMM ambulance by the Italian Army) to be delivered in 2012.
Based on a ballistic steel monocoque hull design, the 6×6 VBTP amphibious armoured vehicle family of 17t – 20t medium armoured vehicles, offers performance and protection levels which fully meet the demands of current and future operations. Iveco Defence Vehicles has signed a contract with the Brazilian Army for the supply of 2044 units of the base VBTP model.
The modular design of the light multirole vehicle (LMV) has enabled Iveco’s engineering team to implement the vehicle family approach which has always underpinned the LMV design concept, accommodating a wide variety of developments demanded by the user.
The LMV 4×4 digital is a fully digitised CAN-based electronic vehicle. Its architecture has been integrated onto the most recent LMV variant. The Austrian Army has signed a contract for 150 LMV Digital in seven different configurations, and related logistics support.
The Special Forces LMV can accommodate a crew of 5+1, with four doors facilitating rapid dismount. Add on kits can be mounted to provide enhanced ballistic and mine protection.
The Iveco Trakker range is much sought after for civil on-road and heavy-duty applications. It has proved particularly suitable for adaptation to military missions. It is available in a large number of variants, and can be fitted with an armoured cab. Currently, it is operated by ten leading NATO countries.
The 6×6 Trakker (AT720TWTM) being exhibited is currently in service with the Bundeswehr (German Army). It is used as a tractor, pulling a Rohr trailer.
Trakker latest sales successes:
- Switzerland’s largest ever military truck deal for the supply of 910 Iveco heavy trucks including 4×2, 4×4, 6×2, 6×6, 8×6 and 8×8 versions from the Stralis and Trakker heavy truck ranges
- UK’s largest ever Trakker deal for the supply of 206 6×6 and 8×8 Trakkers to support the Royal Engineers on operations
- Iveco Defence Vehicles is currently bidding to supply Trakker to the Norwegian and Swedish Armed Forces to re-equip their logistic vehicle fleets
The high mobility 8×8 will be displayed in two versions featuring two different appliqué armoured cab, ensuring that the vehicle provides the crew with the maximum flexibility in trade-offs between protection and payload.
High mobility 8×8 chosen by the French Army Iveco Defence Vehicles and the French company Soframe – a subsidiary of the Alsatian Lohr Group – have been awarded a contract for the supply of up to 2200 high mobility 8×8 to the French Army. The contract includes various types of demountable hook-lift body work, trailer towing and cranes for the recovery of military vehicles. The protected driver’s cab ensures maximum crew protection.
This vehicle is part of a batch of 169 vehicles ordered by the Italian Army, including 4×4 and 8×8 versions in different configurations. The vehicle features a load handling system and a new generation cab.

The Centauro VBM Freccia Explorer is an 8 X 8 armoured wheeled vehicle which combines the proven and highly reliable drive train of the Centauro Family with a hull especially designed to ensure the maximum crew survivability. The Oto Melara HITFIST Plus turret, mounting a 25mm or 30mm cannon, provides the crew with the adequate firepower and protection while the powerful Iveco engine driving an automatic gearbox and enhanced by the 3-axles steering ensures an outstanding mobility.
Another vehicle of the Centauro family to be displayed is the Centauro VBM Recovery. This variant, besides providing the recovery of a same class vehicle with the help of a complete towing set and a 20 tons winch, makes possible to carry a complete power pack for "on-field" interventions thanks to a nine tons crane.
The Consortium Iveco-Oto Melara will also exhibit the VBA, a combination of the SUPERAV of Iveco D.V. and the HITFIST OWS weapon station turret of Oto Melara, developed to match the requirements of the new Italian Amphibious Brigade. With outstanding mobility on land and in the water and airtransportability in a C130, the VBA provides an optimum blend of tactical, operational and strategic mobility. Its HITFIST OWS weapon station incorporates the latest technologies in the fields of electronics, signature and Man Machine Interface (MMI) with outstanding performances in terms of lethality, survivability and fightability.
