XRANGE
EDGE Group’s XRANGE is the first multi-domain training, testing, and evaluation (TT&E) facility in the Middle East and North Africa region. It is located 100 km from Abu Dhabi on a highly secure island 8 km offshore. With a landmass covering 350km², it is used for testing autonomous systems across all domains, as well as various weapons systems and electronic warfare technologies.
The facility includes a 3.8km-long, 60 m-wide ICAO standard runway, a secondary 1.2km long runway, airspace clearance of up to 10,000ft (extendable to 40,000ft when needed), and an extra 2,500km² airspace that can be active through NOTAM, allowing long-range endurance and beyond line-of-sight trials for communications and data links. In addition, the facility boasts a 50km² maritime danger space that enables the testing of maritime assets and systems.
XRANGE’s secondary runway was built to enhance the already valuable testing capacity of the larger runway, expanding its ability to host simultaneous unmanned aerial systems (UAS) flight operations.
Easily accessible testing facility for air, ground, and maritime trials
XRANGE can be accessed all year round and provides an ideal environment for extreme climate trials due to high temperatures and humid, dusty conditions. Its versatile runway is capable of accepting almost any size of aircraft, and XRANGE is currently exploring a mobile UAE customs clearance capability, allowing for test teams and personnel to be flown directly onto the island.
XRANGE is a commercial operation aimed at supporting both commercial and governmental clients not only in the UAE, but also around the world. Its core mission as a TT&E centre allows clients to experiment with and verify the capabilities of their platforms, systems, and other products across their lifecycle, from development through to introduction into service and future upgrades.
Systems that XRANGE evaluates include unmanned air, ground, and maritime systems, mission-critical sensors, various types of radar systems, directed energy weapons, electronic warfare technologies, as well as munitions ranging from small arms through to mortars and artillery systems.
