Klinge Corporation Completes Testing of Their New Military Container Systems for the Australian Defense Force
Klinge Corporation, the specialist manufacturer of transport and storage refrigeration equipment, has completed acceptance testing of their military container systems in Melbourne, Australia. Their military container systems passed a multitude of MIL-STD tests. The container systems completed several military tests at the Australian Defense Force’s state-of-the-art test facility in Melbourne, Australia. The testing regime included M14 and M1Vibration, Performance/Cooling, Ambient Temperature, Electromagnetic Compatibility/ Interference Test, Power, and Driving Rain Tests, among other complex tests.
As part of a multi-year contract worth approximately $10,000,000, Klinge will provide a minimum of 185 refrigerated military container systems (combination of 10ft container and 20ft containers) and 1500 collapsible food storage bins to the Australian Defense Force (ADF).

The 10ft System—acting as either a refrigerator or freezer—and the 20ft system—providing multi-temperature refrigeration with separate refrigerator and freezer sections—will form a vital part of the food distribution chain for the Australian Defense Force.
Rugged and Reliable Design
As required by the M14 Vibration Test, the 10ft and 20ft Container Systems as well as the food storage bins were tested to show the ability to function after being subjected to a total of approximately 2000 km of second class roads, 400 km of cross country terrain and 2 passes of the rough course. The duration of the vibration test with both Container Systems tested simultaneously was approximately 10 days and covered approximately 2400 km. One of the transport configurations for the 10ft was with the shelving installed, loaded with water bottles restrained by cargo netting. One of the configurations for the 20ft Container Systems was an internal restraint system used to secure food storage bins.
Additionally, the Container Systems were tested for their ability to operate and meet technical requirements when subjected to a 24 hour diurnal cycle of Category A1 and Category B2 operating temperatures.
The 10ft and 20ft Container Systems were also subjected to an hour-long driving rain test that called for a severity of 200±50mm. Each nozzle was maintained at a working pressure of 250 kPa to achieve a severity that was greater than 200±50mm.
The insulated containers used in all of Klinge’s refrigerated container systems are designed and tested in accordance with ISO 1496-2.
