M-Switch X.400 is an effective and adaptable Message Transfer Agent (MTA) that can be used for local user support or as a gateway, shifting messages between other MTAs. It is widely utilised in Civil Aviation, EDI, and Military environments.

Configurations

M-Switch X.400 is available in two configurations:

  1. M-Switch X.400: Gateway/Backbone, which can be utilised to switch messages between other MTAs, as well as to convert between X.400 and another protocol (not including X.400/SMTP conversion ,which is covered by M-Switch MIXER.
  2. M-Switch X.400, which is used to support local X.400 users directly via P3 or indirectly via M-Store X.400 with P7. Local MTA use does not allow P1 to P1 switching and use as a gateway.

This product has the following add-ons available:

  • M-Switch Encyption: Allowing message encryption and decryption capabilities (with STANAG 4406 Encryption for X.400 messages)
  • M-Switch ACP127: This is for message conversion to/from ACP127 and other protocols.

Deployment

M-Switch X.400 can be utilised in these ways:

  • MA is a “Backbone MTA” that can connect other X.400 MTAs. It works as a P1 switch that offers high-functioning switching and effective message routing.
  • As a “Local MTA” (or “Departmental MTA”) for X.400 support to end users with the help of User Agents.
  • As a “Border MTA” for connecting different X.400 domains through capabilities such as authorisation, security label handling and anti-virus.

M-Switch X.400 can be utilised for military, civil aviation and EDI applications.

Key advantages

Full X.400 Support

M-Switch conforms to the most up-to-date X.400 standards (X.400 (1999), providing top-quality functionalities.

Excellent scheduling and operational features

The Queue Manager (QMGR) and channel architecture

result in enhanced scheduling, which, together with the Message Switch’s queue structure, yields a product that works effectively in demanding operational environments.

Security

M-Switch products utilise Transport Layer Security (TLS) for data confidentiality and Simple Authentication and Security Layer (SASL) for authentication purposes. SASL also maps simple identifiers onto directory names for authentication. There is also a wide variety of SASL authentication mechanisms.

M-Switch products can check S/MIME signatures when a message is submitted to ensure message integrity. M-Switch Encryption backs S/MIME Encryption, which can be added to all M-Switch products.

High Availability

M-Switch X.400 is robust, durable, and supports fail-over clustering and off-site hot standby.

Military Messaging using STANAG 4406

STANAG 4406 is the NATO standard for Military Messaging based on X.400. It supports formal military messaging and is particularly useful for High-Grade Messaging.
