The US Special Operations Command (SOCOM) has awarded a contract to Battelle, a not-for-profit business, for providing the specialised non-standard commercial vehicles (NSCVs) and related support.

This contract has a ceiling value of $350m, inclusive of all options, and will be executed over the next seven years.

According to a US Department of Defense’s (DoD) contract announcement, the indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity contract with Battelle has a minimum ordering guarantee of $2,500.

The first delivery order, which is worth $647,357 requires the organisation to provide programme management support and is being awarded concurrently with the contract.

The DoD said that the contract’s scope includes the delivery of NSCVs, lifecycle replacement, and vehicle modifications, as per the USSOCOM’s specific needs.

The contract also encompasses a range of lifecycle replacement services to support the existing NSCV fleet of USSOCOM.

This support is mainly related to programme management, engineering changes, communications, armament, modification packages, test support, new equipment training for driver, system technical services, parts, as well as shipping.

The seven-year ordering period, which has already started in April 2024, is expected to end in April 2031, with a five-year base and two one-year option periods, the US DoD stated.

According to Battelle, NSCVs are designed to maintain their original appearance while providing enhanced survivability, mobility, and firepower for Special Operations Forces (SOF) missions.

The company employs a systems engineering approach to ensure vehicle performance in harsh environments.

Battelle Logistics, Operations, and Ground Systems Business Line director Reed McPeak said: “Battelle has provided armoured vehicles to SOCOM for over ten years now, and this new contract award ensures we are positioned to extend that legacy by delivering our dependable, high-quality armoured vehicles to SOCOM for years to come.

“This award highlights the outstanding capabilities of the Battelle ground systems team to design and build vehicles that effectively meet SOCOM’s unique mission needs. We are honoured to have been selected for this work and excited at the opportunity to continue serving our SOCOM customer and the SOF community.”
