- 100th Boxer MIV delivered; 623 total on order across four variants
- Built in the UK (RBSL Telford, KNDS Stockport); procured via OCCAR/ARTEC
- Completion depends on pace: ~2031 if 100/year, later if slower
The 100th Boxer Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV) has been delivered to the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD), with the platform currently being manufactured in the UK at RBSL’s facility in Telford and KNDS UK in Stockport.
Following the delivery, the programme is now around 16% complete, with the British Army due to receive over 600 Boxer MIVs to fulfil key mobility roles across the service, although this will primarily be focussed in the Armoured Brigade Combat Team formations.
The programme is being sourced through the European OCCAR structure and delivered via the ARTEC consortium, bringing together Franco-German prime KNDS and Germany’s Rheinmetall – alongside the National Armaments Director Group (NAD Group) and the British Army.
Martyn Williams, Senior Responsible Owner for Boxer at the NAD Group, described the delivery as a “significant milestone”.
A total of 623 Boxer vehicles across four distinct variants are on contract, comprising: infantry carrier (146 units), command platform (212 units), specialist carrier (200 units), and ambulance (65 units).
Can UK programme delivery 100 Boxers per year?
In March 2025, Maria Eagle, the then Defence Procurement Minister, stated British Army Boxer deliveries had been subject to “ongoing delays” due to global supply chain issues resulting from the war in Ukraine.
However, Eagle added that with “production vehicles now arriving”, the expectation was that industry would deliver up to 100 vehicles per year.
The first Boxer was handed over to the UK in late-2023, indicating that it has taken around two-and-a-half years to deliver the first hundred vehicles.
Would that tempo be kept at around 40 units per year, it would take 13 years to complete the full delivery of vehicles.
If the assumption is that deliveries are now at 100-per-year tempo, it will take a little over five years to fulfil the programme, completing in mid-2031. At a mid-point production run of 70 Boxers, the full 623-unit order would complete in mid-2035.
The next milestone delivery announcement will give a clear indication as to which of the above timelines the programme is running alongside, notwithstanding potential shifts to the right as a result of the incoming Defence Equipment Programme.
