Teledyne e2v HiRel has announced the availability of a new single-pole, double-throw multi-chip module (MCM) switch for power handling.

The surface mount PIN-diode hybrid exhibits superior radio frequency (RF) and thermal performance when compared to monolithic microwave integrated circuit (MMIC) or glass carrier-based technologies.

The small form factor offers low insertion loss and superior intermodulation performance.

The TDSW002040X-198 symmetrical switch is customised to reduce Transmit-to-Antenna loss while increasing Transmit-to-Receive isolation.

It is also customised to allow maximum flexibility as the designer can assign either port as ‘Transmit Port’ and the other as the ‘Receive Port’.

Teledyne HiRel Business Development vice-president Mont Taylor said: “Our military customers requested this part because their previous supplier exited the market, leaving them without a solution.

“The TDSW002040 is surprisingly small given the very high power-handling it is capable of, making it perfect for modern military communications transmit/receive switching.”

According to the company, the immensely low thermal resistance of the hybrid assembly allows reliably handling up to +56dBm CW power and up to +60dBm peak RF incident power when operating at 125°C.

Teledyne e2v HiRel noted that the devices are readily available for ordering and shipment.

Once ordered, they will be shipped from the company’s Product Distribution Center in Milpitas, California.

However, they are available just to US customers.
