The US Army has awarded part of the $300m, five-year contract to Alion Science and Technology to deliver prototype ammunition and armament-related products.

Under the contract, Alion will deliver processing, supply and fabrication of armament-related products and manufacturing equipment services.

The company will also assist the army with prototyping and engineering services along with procurement of foreign ammunition and weapons.

The US Army’s Armament Research, Development and Engineering Center’s (ARDEC) Rapid Response, Rapid Prototype Technology Initiative (RPTI), which is responsible for developing future weapon systems for the US Army, is the contracting agency.

The contract will run from July 2009 to July 2014.
