The Bright Star annual joint army drills between the US and Egypt, originally scheduled to take place later this year, have been cancelled due to ‘ongoing transitional events’ in Egypt.

Arutz Sheva reported that the military drills were cancelled following last week’s terrorist attacks, which led to the deaths of five Egyptian policemen and soldiers.

The US State Department reached the decision to cancel as part of the routine bilateral conversations between the nations.

“Egypt and the US also agreed to commence formal planning in June 2012 for the next instalment of exercise Bright Star in 2013,” the State Department added.
