The Australian Department of Defence (DoD) has selected Verizon to provide a secure, high-speed networking solution to upgrade its communications capabilities.

Under a five-year A$50m ($52m) agreement, the company will provide a fully managed, dual internet gateway solution and professional services support to link DoD employees, other government agencies, industry partners and the general public.

The streamlined, optimised internet solution will provide enhanced visibility into usage and costs.

Each gateway will be housed in a separate, secure, geographically diverse Verizon data centre location for robust system availability and security.

The Australian DoD is responsible for defending the continent and its interests, and combines the Australian Army, Navy and Air Force with a public service function.
