Russia is planning to seek legal guarantees from the US that its proposed European missile defence shield will not be used to target Russia’s strategic nuclear forces, the Russian Foreign Ministry has stated.
“This issue should be resolved swiftly. Moreover, we are sure that it is necessary … to proceed to the coordination of the concept and the architecture of the European missile defence system as soon as possible,” the statement added.
Russia is also keeping track on the deployment of elements of the missile defence system in Romania.
Romania and US have reached an agreement to establish an interceptor facility at a former air base for a future defence shield, according to RIA Novosti.
