AeroVironment has received a firm-fixed-price contract order from the US Army to provide digital Raven small unmanned aircraft system (UAS) retrofit kits.
The Raven unmanned aircraft is a hand-launched sensor platform that provides tactical units with day / night, real-time video imagery for reconnaissance, surveillance and target acquisition missions.
Each system consists of three aircraft, two ground control stations and spares, and is mostly used by US forces for base security, mission planning and force protection missions.
Work under the $14.7m contract is scheduled to be completed by December 2011.
The company has also delivered small unmanned aircraft to Italy, Denmark, the Netherlands, Spain and Norway.
