The Federal Ministry of Defence of Germany is set to provide funding for the modernisation of the General Silvestras Zukauskas Training Area in Pabradė, Lithuania.

Germany’s contribution will be used for the procurement of a mobile target lifting system for training tank and armoured equipment live fire while in manoeuvre.

An agreement on funding the procurement was signed between Lithuanian Ministry of National Defence vice-minister Giedrimas Jeglinskas and Germany’s Federal Minister of Defence Parliamentary State Secretary Dr Peter Tauber.

Under the agreement, Germany will provide up to €1m to Lithuania on a non-reimbursable basis for the mobile target equipment, including control and assessment technology.

The new mobile target lifting equipment at the General Silvestras Zukauskas Training Area will be used by the Lithuanian Armed Forces.

“German investment into long-term Lithuania’s security demonstrates a serious and responsible approach to the importance of the Nato Enhanced Forward Presence.”

In addition to Lithuania, the upgraded and improved multifunctional firing range will meet the training needs of other countries contributing capabilities to the Nato Enhanced Forward Presence Battalion Battle Group, as well as other members of the alliance.
