Elbit Systems has secured a contract to deliver Iron Fist active protection systems (APS) to support the modernisation of the US Army’s Bradley M2A4E1 infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs).

The estimated value of this contract is approximately $37m and is set to be executed over the next two years period.

Elbit Systems’ APS will be supplied to General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems (GD-OTS), which is upgrading the Bradley M2A4E1 IFVs for the US Army.

Elbit Systems Land general manager Yehuda (Udi) Vered said: “Our Iron Fist Active Protection Systems represent the highest level of innovation, offering comprehensive protection against evolving threats on the modern battlefield.

“Through this strategic collaboration with GD-OTS, we are honoured to contribute to the enhancement of the Bradley Infantry Fighting Vehicles, further empowering the US armed forces with enhanced capabilities to fulfil their missions effectively and safely.”

Developed by Elbit Systems, the Iron Fist APS is a ‘Hard Kill’ system designed to provide 360-degree protection to armoured platforms against a range of modern battlefield threats.

The APS counters a wide array of anti-armour threats, such as anti-tank guided missiles, anti-tank rockets, uncrewed aerial systems, as well as loitering munitions, in diverse combat environments, including complex urban and open terrain missions.

Elbit’s Iron Fist series includes configurations suitable for a range of vehicles from armoured fighting and IFVs to logistic transports and main battle tanks.

Elbit Systems said that this system is distinguished by its high efficiency coupled with minimal volume, weight, and power demands and is also the Israel Defense Force’s choice for their second-generation APS.

In January, RTX’s subsidiary Raytheon received a $154m contract to equip its Commander’s Independent Viewer (CIV) systems with the US Army’s Bradley IFVs.
