The global apparel industry noticed a 0.5% rise in IT hiring activity in September 2021 over the previous month, led by Amazon’s 48.06% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.

The apparel industry’s overall hiring activity increased 0.94% when compared with August 2021.

Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 6.14% share of the global apparel industry’s hiring activity in September 2021, down 0.2% over the last three-month average share.

According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of September 2021 were 0.39% lower when compared with the previous month.

The decrease was a result of 1.45% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers drive apparel IT hiring activity

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 80.16% emerged as the top IT occupation in the apparel hiring activity in September 2021, a 1.35% decline over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in second with a share of 7.2% in September 2021, down 5.3% over the previous month.

The other prominent IT roles include Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with a 6.33% share in September 2021, a decline of 12.36% over the previous month, and Computer Support Specialists with a 2.89% share in September 2021 and a drop of 11.45% over August 2021.

Top five apparel companies by recruitment activity in September 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 0.59% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global apparel industry during September 2021 over August 2021.

Amazon posted 4,893 IT jobs in September 2021 and registered a rise of 4.13% over the previous month, followed by Robert Bosch with 938 jobs and a 0.64% decline. Walmart with 407 IT jobs and Apple with 356 jobs, recorded a 23.93% decline and a 27.64% drop, respectively, while Danaher recorded an 11.55% rise with 338 job postings during September 2021.

Regional composition of IT hiring in apparel industry

North America emerged as the leading region in the global apparel IT hiring activity in September 2021 with a 65.11% share, which marked a 5.46% rise over the previous month.

Europe stood next with 17.02%, registering a 6.32% month-on-month decline. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with a 16.48% share and a 25.75% drop over August 2021.

In the fourth place was South & Central America with a share of 0.91% and a month-on-month rise of 40.91%. Middle East & Africa stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 0.47%, registering a 14.29% decrease over the previous month.
