Notably, Architecture and Engineering Occupations jobs accounted for a 16% share of the North American aerospace, defence and security industry’s total new job postings in Q2 2023, drop 18% over the prior quarter.
Architecture and Engineering Occupations drive aerospace, defence and security hiring activity
Architecture and Engineering Occupations, with a share of 16% new job postings, was the occupation with the greatest hiring activity in the North American aerospace, defence and security industry in Q2 2023 , ahead of Computer and Mathematical Occupations with a 15% share of new job postings.
The other prominent roles included Management Occupations with an 8% share in Q2 2023, Production Occupations with a 6% share and Business and Financial Operations Occupations with a 6% share of new job postings.
Top five companies accounted for 47% of hiring activity
RTX posted 11,480 jobs in Q2 2023 and registered a decline of 28% over the previous quarter, followed by Northrop Grumman with 5,908 jobs and an 8% growth. Leidos, with 4,038 jobs, and Huntington Ingalls Industries, with 2,851 jobs, recorded a 51% drop and a 4% rise, respectively, while L3Harris Technologies recorded a 125% increase with a 2,274 new job postings during Q2 2023.

The US held the leading share of the North American aerospace, defence and security hiring activity with a 95.22% share, a 19% decrease over Q1 2023. Canada was next with 4.18%, four-percentage-point up over the previous quarter.
