Recently a convoy of trucks left Mustang’s US manufacturing facility in Twinsburg, OH, with a complete state-of-the-art containerised transmission laboratory on board. It is headed for Iraq to support the military efforts to redeploy Iraqi tanks.

The portable transmission laboratory consisted of one cross drive transmission test cell, one in-line transmission test cell and a large common control room for both test cells. A utility room housing the power electronics drives and other utilities was also containerised to support the lab. The laboratory was packaged into five individual containers and when assembled measures 14×10.7×3.1m.

Once on site the, the containers are bolted together and either facility power or generator power is applied to create a self-contained laboratory. Integrated into the laboratory system is an easy to remove panelled raised floor and sub-floor sump system. The sump system is tied to an active ventilation system which continuously purges the below grade sump area. A slopped sub-floor makes spills easy to contain, clean and drain.

The 2.6m raised floor to ceiling area has ventilation and fire suppression throughout the test cells and control room. The large spacious test cells have integrated overhead cranes to assist in loading test articles on to the dynamometers. Each test cell and the utility room is equipped with outside facing 2.4m wide.
