This week our Heavy Ground Mobility System (HGMS) and Medium Ground Mobility System (MGMS) demonstration units are being taken to the Defence Vehicle Dynamics (DVD) exhibition in Millbrook, Befordshire by IVECO.
DVD is one of the main events in the defence diary for those supplying equipment and support to the UK’s Land Forces and so IVECO is keen to show off what its vehicles are capable of when HGMS and MGMS are onboard.
HGMS is 50m of aluminium Trackway that can withstand weights of up to 70t. It is mounted onto an electronic spool called a Trackrack which is fitted onto a vehicle chassis such as IVECO’s TRACKKER 8×8 trucks so the Trackway can be deployed and collected efficiently with minimum manpower.
MGMS is 32m of aluminium Trackway that can withstand weights of up to 30 tonnes. It is mounted onto an electronic spool called a Fastrack which is fitted onto a vehicle chassis such as IVECO’s EUROCARGO 6×6 trucks so the Trackway can be deployed and collected efficiently with minimum manpower.
Trackway is a core asset for the global defence industry and is currently being used by over 40 different armed forces all over the world.
One of the most recent orders for HGMS was an £18m order from the Turkish Army where we collaborated with IVECO.
The systems are now in operation and will be used to improve ground mobility, protect valuable military vehicles and allow rapid access and egress to bridgeheads and other inaccessible areas.
