Rheinmetall Denel Munition has secured two significant contracts for the supply of extended range full bore (ERFB) 155mm artillery ammunition.
The orders, from an undisclosed international customer, represent a high double-digit million-euro value and encompass the provision of projectiles, propellants, and fuses.
Rheinmetall Denel Munition CEO Dr Frank Dirksen said: “We are very grateful for the trust that our business partners and customers place in our globally proven extended-range ammunition and our technology for long ranges.
“As a system supplier, we are constantly working to improve our cutting-edge technologies to offer the best possible solutions to modern armed forces.”
The company believes that heightened global security concerns have spurred a surge in international demand, prompting a significant uptick in orders.
Rheinmetall, which is also a producer of large-calibre ammunition, is responding to this demand by expanding its manufacturing capabilities.
The Düsseldorf-headquartered tech company has been scaling up since 2022 and is targeting an annual production rate of no fewer than 1.1 million 155mm artillery rounds by 2027.
In May 2025, Rheinmetall confirmed plans to establish a new facility in Telford, Northern England, dedicated to manufacturing large calibre gun barrels. Operations at this new site are expected to commence by 2027.
Rheinmetall Denel Munition is also expanding its production capacities as current international supply capacities struggle to fulfil rising demand.
The subsidiary is incorporating significant technological advancements into its production processes, which are anticipated to enhance performance and usability for end-users.
Rheinmetall Denel Munition provides strong technical support and manufactures all energetic and mechanical components of the 155mm ammunition in-house.
Presently, the company is engaged in testing precision projectiles capable of achieving distances of up to 73km when fired from howitzers that comply with Nato’s Joint Ballistics Memorandum of Understanding.
These extended ranges are crucial for improving survivability and offensive capabilities on the battlefield.
In April 2025, Rheinmetall completed the acquisition of Stascheit, a ammunition detection and recovery company based in Gardelegen/Saxony-Anhalt.
