Rheinmetall has enhanced its maintenance operations for defence vehicles in both the Northern Territory and Queensland in Australia.
The company has delivered training on Medium Heavy Capability (MHC) Introduction and Maintenance in collaboration with its partner RGM Maintenance, noted Rheinmetall Defence Australia logistic vehicles general manager Joern Buelter.
This collaboration, which began in 2022, aims to bring secure employment, training opportunities, and sovereign industrial capabilities to regional Australia.
In February 2025, Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles Australia marked a milestone with the LAND 121 3B/5B programme’s Final Acceptance.
This achievement indicates the successful, timely, and budget-compliant delivery of more than 3000 HX Trucks and an equal number of modules.
Buelter said: “Rheinmetall Defence Australia’s training programme ensures that RGM’s certification levels are the same as those performed by Australian Army personnel at Robertson Barracks in the Northern Territory on Rheinmetall MAN vehicles across the HX Truck fleet.

By GlobalData“The partnership reflects the strong commitment to regional maintenance capability development as outlined in the recent Defence Strategy Review (DSR) to force posture in the north of Australia. The growing fleet in Northern Territory and Northern Queensland means that Rheinmetall has delivered OEM HX Logistic Vehicle maintenance training to RGM Maintenance personnel from Darwin, Townsville and Rockhampton, strengthening sustainment capability across the north.”
The HX truck offers service within the Army, enhancing the capabilities of Australia’s Defence Force.
It is a heavyweight vehicle, weighing more than 41,000kg. It is designed to operate in extreme temperatures ranging from -32°C to +49°C and can navigate through water more than 1.2m deep.
The truck’s features include an Integrated and Automated Load Handling System, Artillery System, Crane, Container Carrier, Recovery, System Carrier, Tanker, Tipper, and Tractor.
Earlier in the month, Rheinmetall completed the acquisition of Stascheit, a company specialising in ammunition detection and recovery, located in Gardelegen/Saxony-Anhalt.
This acquisition allows Rheinmetall Project Solutions to broaden its services in explosive ordnance disposal.
Stascheit is set to become a fully-owned subsidiary of Rheinmetall Project Solutions.
