Lockheed Martin has successfully completed the first integrated live-fire test of its Kodiak containerised launcher at at Yakima Training Centre, Washington.
The demonstration, which used a Reduced-Range Practice Rocket (RRPR), took place less than six months after the system’s initial trials, according to the company.

In the latest test, Lockheed Martin’s engineering team executed the loading and firing of an RRPR from the Kodiak launcher, confirming its operational capability.
The RRPR serves as the standard training rocket used by HIMARS and M270A2 Multiple Launch Rocket System crews to conduct live-fire exercises with munitions such as the GMLRS and other rockets in the MLRS Family of Munitions.
The Kodiak launcher is designed for versatility, with applications across air, land, and sea platforms.
According to Lockheed Martin, each container is capable of holding up to 12 GMLRS rockets, allowing firepower to be adjusted for different missions without expanding the launcher’s size.
This modular approach enables rapid movement and deployment of weapon systems, potentially increasing operational flexibility for military branches.
The latest demonstration follows a series of successful tests of similar containerised launcher technologies, referred to in previous reports as ‘GRIZZLY’ tests.
Lockheed Martin stated that these efforts reflect ongoing work to provide defence agencies with adaptable and cost-efficient launching systems that can deliver both offensive and defensive capabilities.
Lockheed Martin advanced programmes vice president and general manager Randy Crites said: “Achieving a live-fire launch from our Kodiak containerised system in under six months showcases the speed and agility our customers demand.
“Completing all mission requirements on our first attempt reinforces our commitment to delivering a ready-to-fire solution that keeps pace with the evolving battlefield.”
