QinetiQ, a provider of defence and security solutions, has been named a prime supplier on the Digital and IT Professional Services (DIPS) framework, a contract worth £1.2bn to bolster the UK MoD digital infrastructure.

The framework, overseen by the Crown Commercial Service, will span across four years and offer a range of digital and IT specialist services to Defence Digital.

Under the framework, QinetiQ will play a role in various areas: DevApps, UX, Dev Ops, system design and applications support, and cybersecurity. Additionally, the company will act as a subcontracting partner on two additional lots focusing on data, tech assurance and knowledge and information management, and intelligence solutions.

James Willis, chief executive of UK intelligence, QinetiQ, emphasised the company’s commitment to addressing challenges faced by the MOD, stating, “We have a proven track record under similar framework agreements of successfully partnering with an ecosystem of both large contractors with a long heritage in defence and suppliers that are newer to defence who can bring fresh perspectives to defence challenges, to address our customers’ most complex challenges at pace.”

The DIPS framework aligns closely with Defence Digital’s transformation objectives, aiming to provide access to various industry skills while reducing competition time and accelerating delivery. By leveraging QinetiQ’s digital engineering, cyber security, and mission systems architectures, the framework seeks to enhance information sharing and provide actionable intelligence to multiple operational users.

Through its strategic role in the DIPS framework, QinetiQ aims to further develop its mission-critical digital capabilities, particularly in DevSecOps and cyber. This partnership reinforces QinetiQ’s position as a supplier to Defence Digital and shows its commitment to supporting the MoD’s ongoing digital transformation efforts.

QinetiQ has recently secured two contracts with the UK MoD. In 2023, they were awarded a contract to develop and deliver a shore-based trainer at HMS Sultan, replicating the platform management system of the UK’s Daring-class or Type 45 destroyer fleet. Additionally, as part of the Aurora Engineering Partnership, QinetiQ has gained a £13m contract to support the development and integration of combat systems for Royal Navy Type 26 and Type 31 frigates.

The collaboration between QinetiQ and the MoD through the DIPS framework highlights the government’s commitment to delivering public services. As the framework takes effect, both parties are poised to unlock new opportunities in the defence sector.
