HII’s mission technologies division has secured a five-year task order to advance research on airdrop and combat feeding techniques for the US Army.

As part of this programme, HII will work to enhance both cargo and personnel airdrop systems across crewed and uncrewed aircraft.

The company stated that the initiative aims to improve the reliability and safety of airdrop equipment, as well as strengthen interoperability between different delivery systems.

The contract also calls for the integration of advanced sensing technologies, autonomous capabilities, and cybersecurity protections to address environmental and operational threats.

These efforts are designed to ensure that supplies and rations can reach soldiers effectively, even in challenging or contested operational environments.

HII mission technologies’ all-domain operations group president Todd Gentry said: “Our troops’ safety and mission success depend on their ability to stay supplied and mobile even in the most difficult and austere environments.”

The project is part of the Information Analysis Centre Multiple Award Contract (IAC MAC) administered by the Defence Technical Information Centre for the US Army Combat Capabilities Development Command Soldier Centre.

Nearly 60 HII task orders are currently active under the IAC MAC programme, the company reported.

The Department of War Information Analysis Centre (DoWIAC), supported by the Defence Technical Information Centre, delivers technical data management and research services to the Department of Defence and other federal agencies.

The IAC programme supports science, technology, and acquisition communities by promoting collaboration and facilitating the development and distribution of scientific and technical information across the defence and wider research sectors.
