The Australian Department of Defence has awarded a contract to Elbit Systems to help strengthen the country’s cyber security capability.

Under the deal, the company will be responsible for providing Australian Defence Force (ADF) cyber specialists with a Cyber Range Training platform, developed by Elbit subsidiary Cyberbit.

The scope of the three-year project involves the delivery of an interim cyber range, network design and build, cyber range training, and training and teaching materials and support.

Elbit Systems Australia managing director Dan Webster said: “We will be supporting Defence in training their ‘Cyber Warriors’ who will defend against the real cyber threats we are faced with every day.

“Trainees will learn to identify, track, investigate, respond to and remediate a cyber-attack.”

The new Cyber Training range will be provided to 49 cyber warfare specialists who graduated from the ADF’s Accelerated Defensive Cyber Training programme, which has been designed to meet Australia’s immediate networks and mission systems security requirements.

Australian Defence Industry Minister Christopher Pyne said: “The Australian Government is committed to strengthening its cyber capabilities to protect defence and other critical government systems from malicious cyber intrusion and disruption.

“The cyber training range will be used by defence personnel for training on cyber-terrain and associated systems that our cyber workforce is responsible to defend.”

Cyber Range is a training and simulation platform that allows organisations to establish and manage hyper-realistic training centres to support information security team performance.
