State-owned company Ukroboronprom has started upgrading an additional batch of T-84 tanks for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The T-84s are being modernised at the company’s state-owned enterprises, the Malyshev Plant and the Kharkiv Morozov Machine-Building Design Bureau.

Under the deal, the Malyshev Plant was responsible for carrying out repair works on the next batch of T-84 main battle tanks.

The scope of the project involved checking, restoring or completely replacing all the main nodes and components of the combat vehicles used by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

“Once upgraded, the new batch of T-84 tanks will undergo a series of tests in the presence of the representatives from the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine.”

Once repaired, the vehicles were transported to the Kharkiv Morozov Machine-Building Design Bureau to undergo upgrade and modernisation works.

Improvements added to the tanks included electronic systems replacement and installation of protected digital radio stations.

The overhaul project will help significantly improve the combat efficiency of the Ukrainian vehicles, enabling them to carry out operations in all weather conditions during the day and at night.

Once upgraded, the new batch of T-84 tanks will undergo a series of tests in the presence of the representatives from the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine.

Currently in service with the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the T-84 battle tanks are equipped with a 125mm autoloader-integrated gun, which is capable of firing controlled precision anti-tank missiles with a target destruction range of approximately 5km.

Weighing nearly 50t, each vehicle features a 1,200HP engine that enables it to travel at a speed of up to 70km/hr. It is protected with advanced Ukrainian reactive armour and electro-optical countermeasures system.
