Fire control systems company Smart Shooter has been awarded a single-award indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) contract by the US Joint Interagency Task Force 401 (JIATF-401) with a maximum ordering ceiling of up to $150m for its SMASH counter-drone technology.

The firm-fixed-price agreement announced by the US Department of War (DoW) runs for 36 months with an estimated completion date of 27 September 2029. Army Contracting Command at Detroit Arsenal, Michigan, is the contracting activity.

Under the terms of the contract, Smart Shooter is the exclusive provider of SMASH fire control systems, training and associated services. The contract covers hardware, software and updates, training and support, with the volume, scope and scheduling of future deliveries to be established through individual orders.

Work locations and funding will similarly be set on a per-order basis.

The award underpins JIATF-401’s Domestic Shield Program and related global operational missions. It aims to address force protection, base defence and counter-unmanned aerial system needs both within the US and overseas.

JIATF-401 is the body responsible for coordinating counter-unmanned aircraft system (UAS) activity across the US armed forces and federal agencies. Fifty bids were received during the solicitation process.

Smart Shooter CEO and co-founder Michal Mor said: “Domestic Shield is about giving defenders the tools to stop small, fast-moving drones before they can harm forces, bases, and critical assets.

“This award, and the framework it provides for future orders of up to $150m, marks a significant milestone in the expansion of our activity in the US defence market.”

Smart Shooter’s SMASH product range comprises lightweight, rifle-mounted devices that employ AI, computer vision and advanced target-tracking algorithms.

The systems identify and follow a target, determine the optimal firing solution and release the shot only when the weapon achieves precise alignment. This equips individual soldiers with a kinetic counter-drone capability using their standard-issue rifle, without compromising the weapon’s conventional function against ground threats.

The operator retains full authority over the engagement decision, and the system is able to interface with external sensors and battle management platforms, according to the company.

JIATF-401 director US Army Brigadier General Matt Ross said: “”JIATF-401 is continuously working with industry partners to provide the counter-UAS capabilities needed to protect warfighters and installations.”

Our approach allows us to identify the right capabilities for specific operational requirements and rapidly deliver those capabilities to the warfighter.”

The contract builds on an earlier JIATF-401 agreement announced in March 2026 and extends a run of new and repeat awards Smart Shooter has received over the past year from the US Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps.

Thousands of SMASH units are claimed to have been already fielded across US military branches. The systems are also in operational use with defence and security forces in Israel, the UK, Germany and other NATO and allied nations.

Smart Shooter is based in Herndon, Virginia, and the wider company maintains offices in Israel, the US, Europe and Australia.
