Defence AI start-up Agon has announced its launch with $30m in initial investment, marking one of the largest seed rounds in Europe’s defence technology sector this year.
The company, which has offices in London and Berlin, says its platform will serve as a synthetic environment to train and validate autonomous weapon systems using AI.

Agon’s seed round drew participation from early and growth investors including Lakestar, 201 Ventures, D3, XYZ, Lux Capital, and Northzone, alongside individual backers such as company chairman David Helgason.
The company began with $7m in pre-seed funding before securing a further $23m, with Lakestar’s Klaus Hommels also joining its board, Agon confirmed.
Agon is led by CEO and co-founder Tristam Constant, a former British Army officer and defence technology executive, and co-founder Junaid Hussain, a serial entrepreneur in aerospace and AI startups.
The start-up states it is developing core AI infrastructure to support Europe’s efforts in algorithmic warfare.
The company’s leadership team includes figures with experience from organisations such as Anduril, Applied Intuition, Google, Palantir, Amazon, Havok, and Unity.
Agon’s platform is designed to provide a simulation environment, described as a “synthetic battle arena” allowing autonomous military systems to undergo testing and optimisation against scenarios informed by current conflict intelligence.
The intent is to speed up AI system development cycles, support rigorous evaluation, and address the need for reproducible evidence in procurement processes, Agon stated.
The start-up reports it has already established early partnerships with European companies involved in defence autonomy and has begun work with design partners.
Tristam Constant said: “We have spent the last six months quietly building, partnering with operationally proven platform builders and assembling a world-class team.
“We are in an AI arms race—Agon is developing the infrastructure that will ensure European defence can iterate and orchestrate systems at the pace of the threat.”
