The US Army has awarded a contract to TASER International to provide 2,500 TASER X26 electronic control devices (ECDs).

The TASER X26 is an ECD that deploys two small probes attached to the device by insulated wires by using a replaceable TASER cartridge with a compressed nitrogen propulsion system.

The electronic device uses the company’s proprietary neuro-muscular incapacitation (NMI) technology and transmits NMI impulses along the attached wires to a maximum distance of up to 10.6m.

The NMI pulses transmitted into a body can penetrate up to 2in of clothing and will create serious injury with minimal risk affecting the sensory and motor functions of the peripheral nervous system.

Advanced features of the device include lighter weight than its predecessor, greater incapacitating power and space for future software upgrades.

The TASER X26 also features an integrated laser sight with low-intensity lights and a central information display to indicate battery levels and activation states.
