The French Army has deployed a light armoured vehicle known as the petit véhicule protégé (PVP), for the first time in Southern Lebanon.

The PVP, which has been deployed on long-range patrol, is a small protected vehicle that combines the protection, appearance and capabilities of the P4 jeep and the véhicule blindé léger (VBL) light armoured vehicle.

The PVP’s armour protection, comfortable interior layout and low noise make it particularly valuable to French troops for long-range deployments.

The 4.4t PVP is designed to be operated as an infantry carrier and as a commander’s vehicle to provide enhanced protection during long-range deployments.

A total of 15 PVPs have been deployed to French forces in Lebanon and an additional 15 will be shipped during the first quarter of 2010.
