NH Industries (NHI) has achieved a delivery milestone with the handover of the 60th and final UH-90A helicopter to the Italian Army.

The UH-90A multirole helicopter, Nato’s designation for the Italian Army’s NH90 Tactical Transport Helicopter (TTH), was assembled at the Venice Tessera facility of Leonardo Helicopters.

The delivery marks the completion of the service’s UH-90A helicopter fleet handover. In December 2007, the service received the delivery of its first NH90.

Leonardo Helicopters chief business officer Carlo Gualdaroni said: “We’re extremely excited to achieve this crucial milestone with the Italian Army.

“This result is testament to the long-established effective partnership between industry and the operator to deliver the required capabilities and to support its use, thus maximising the advantages of its outstanding performance and technologies.

“We’re committed to staying closer and closer to the Italian Army to ensure its UH-90A fleet accomplishes its missions at its best in any condition now and into the future.”

Leonardo is part of the NHI consortium, alongside Airbus Helicopters and GKN Fokker.

The company’s 24,000m² Venice Tessera plant, which began assembly of the NH90s in 2010, is the final assembly of the NH90s for the Italian Army and Navy, as well as various other operators.

The facility also offers retrofits to the in-service helicopters.

According to Leonardo, the Italian Army is one of the first and largest NH90 operators. Its UH-90As have logged in 31,096 flight hours, both in-country and abroad.

The service uses the fleet to conduct tactical and emergency response missions in all-weather and environmental conditions.

In October this year, NSPA completed the demilitarisation, dismantling, and disposal of 722 M-113 Italian Army armoured personnel carriers.
