The French DGA has awarded a contract to Sagem for the modernisation and expansion of the French Army fleet of Sperwer tactical drones and associated equipment.

Under the contract, Sagem will equip three Sperwer drones with its new Euroflir 350+ optronic observation system along with an option on five more Sperwer drones.

The contract also includes delivery of Sagem Remote Video Terminals (RVTs), along with the modernisation of existing RVTs.

The RVT is used by front-line troops and consists of a touch-screen and portable transmitter-receiver to receive geo-referenced images sent by the drone.

The French Army Sperwer drones are used to perform missions for French and Nato forces, including intelligence, route reconnaissance and artillery guidance in Afghanistan.

The latest order brings the number of Sperwer drones produced by Sagem in France to 130.
