The US Army has awarded an indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity (ID-IQ) contract to Northrop Grumman for force protection systems and components in theatre and the continental US.

The ID-IQ contract has been awarded to 19 companies under the direction of army product manager Force Protection Systems to compete for task orders.

The five year $997m contract has a three-year base period of performance and a two-year option.

The contract covers design, development, production, integration, test, installation of components and systems for early warning and protection of forces and critical assets, as well as technology insertion and systems training.

More than 100 force protection systems have been developed and deployed by Northrop at installations in over 18 countries.

The company is also the prime contractor for key force protection programmes that include counterrocket, artillery and mortar, and integrated base defence security system.
