The US Army has taken delivery of the All Semiconductor Airborne Laser Threat Terminator (ASALTT) from Northrop Grumman at Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland, US.
The terminators will be used to develop techniques for advanced missile-seeker countermeasures and help seeker missiles firing off aircraft tails.

ASALTT is an opto-mechanical laser equipped with laser diodes, interband cavity lasers, quantum cascade lasers and ultraviolet through long-wave infrared bands.
The modular open structure architecture (MOSA) allows multiple beams to co-align into a single laser output to deactivate enemy threats.
Northrop is under a contract with the US Army’s Information and Intelligence Warfare Directorate (I2WD) Seeker Effects Laboratory to help with the research and development work for the system.
