Raytheon has delivered the 5,000th AN/ARC-231 radio system for the US Army Aviation ARC-231 radio programme.

The AN/ARC-231 radio system provides network-capable communications and is used for secure anti-jam voice, data and imagery transmission.

The system is widely used by several army helicopters including MH-60L/M and UH-60L/M Black Hawks, UH-1N Hueys, AH-64 Apaches and US Air Force (USAF) RC-135 Rivet Joint and Joint-STARS aircraft.

The US Army Communications-Electronics Command has awarded a contract to Raytheon for the modernisation of the ARC-231 in support of the Mobile User Objective System (MUOS) waveform.

The company will reconfigure the radios and upgrade the cryptographic system to increase its service life beyond 2030.
