Indra has secured a €30m contract from the Spanish Ministry of Defence to upgrade its Chinook CH-47F simulation system.
As agreed, the company will modernise a Full Mission Simulator (FMS), the Flight Training Device (FTD) and the Computer Based Trainers (CBTs) situated at the Helicopter Simulation Center (CESIHEL) of the Armed Forces Flight Academy (ACAVIET) in Colmenar Viejo Base.

Upgrade work will make the Chinook CH-47F helicopter simulation system one of the most advanced in the world enabling Spanish pilots to hone their skills during training.
With a 12t loading capacity, Chinook is one of the most powerful transport helicopters used for carrying soldiers. Several countries are working to upgrade their Chinook fleet to extend their service life.
In a statement, Indra said: “Indra and the Spanish Army will replicate the new F version of the Chinook following the same design strategy they have used in other simulation systems such as the NH90 and the Tigre.”
The strategy will ensure that the future upgrades of the simulators will be consistent with the next generation of the aircraft.

By GlobalDataOverall, the upgraded simulator will feature a 4LED projection system, improved visual quality and technology introducing a fourth infra-red light channel to enable the pilots using their own night-vision goggles (NVG).
Separately, Indra also expects to receive confirmation on the procurement for the electronic defence system and the Mission-AMPS System.
Last month, Indra secured another contract from Spanish Ministry of Defence to upgrade 23 NH90 helicopters with advanced electronic defence systems.
