LRAD system

LRAD has been awarded a contract for supply of additional 100X, 300X and 500X long range acoustic hailing devices (AHDs) to the US Army National Guard (ANG).

The $487,000 award follows a $1.9m contract secured by the company last month for the provision of 500X and 100X devices to US Army Reserves for installation on Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) and High-Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled vehicles (HMMWVs).

Under the terms of the new contract, the company will deliver undisclosed units of AHDs and support equipment, such as wireless kits to the ANG.

LRAD Corporation president and CEO Tom Brown said the LRADs would enable the ANG personnel to rapidly transmit evacuation orders and also aid information to weather or CBRN-effected populations when normal communication infrastructure fails.

"No other AHD delivers such highly intelligible long-range voice broadcasts as the portable, lightweight series of LRAD-X systems," Brown claimed.

"Our proprietary LRAD systems broadcast safe, but powerful voice messages and warning tones that help keep soldiers and civilians out of harms way when National Guard units are deployed during foreign, national and regional actions and emergencies."

The LRAD 100X, 300X and 500X are lightweight and rugged sonic weapons, designed to relay focused, multi-language voice commands and deterrent tones, which can be clearly heard and understood in any type of terrain and weather conditions, in a range of 200 yards to 1.5 miles.

Self contained and hand portable, the LRAD 100X produces messages and commands 20-30dB louder than most megaphones, while LRAD 500X offers a highly directional audio communication capability capable of achieving maximum sound projection and penetration beyond 2,000m.

The compact 300X generates approximately 100% intelligible voice transmission over 88dB of background noise, enabling operators to issue clear, authoritative verbal commands, from small vessels, common remotely operated weapon station (CROWS) and armoured vehicles.

Deliveries under the contract are scheduled to be complete by the end of this year.
