The Royal Netherlands Army (RNLA) has taken delivery of the Command and Staff Trainer (CST) system from Elbit Systems for use during battalion, brigade and higher levels headquarters training programmes.

The delivery forms part of a contract secured by Elbit, following a competition between US and European companies in November 2010 for the supply of CST to address lower-echelon headquarters staff training requirements.

Scheduled to be deployed during the army’s 2013 command and staff exercises, the simulator will help RNLA operational units in concept development and experimentation (CD&E), as well as mission rehearsal events.

"CST is capable of integrating with command, control and communications systems using battle management language protocols."

Designed to enhance operational readiness of commanders and staff personnel, the CST is an advanced simulator that replicates complex battlefield operations, including low and high-intensity conflicts within the operational headquarters.

Using advanced command, control, communications, computers and intelligence (C4I) systems suite, CST also simulates a broad spectrum of non-military settings, such as operations other than war (OOTW) and civil-military cooperation (CIMIC), which include operation of military forces with municipal authorities, police and medical organisations.

Equipped with advanced artificial intelligence and software interfaces, the system requires less personnel, maximum generation of operational scenarios, and also exhibits compliance with any command-and-control system deployed during training due to its high-level architecture (HLA).
