The defence articles and services are expected to be used for the modernisation of the country’s armed forces and expansion of its existing army architecture to combat drug trafficking organisations.
Approved by the US State Department, the FMS will significantly increase and strengthen Mexico’s capability to provide in-country troop mobility for security, while further improving interoperability between Mexico, the US and other allies.
In addition, it directly contributes to the foreign policy and national security of the US by improving the security of Mexico, which has been a strong partner in combating organised crime and drug trafficking.
Indiana-based AM General has been named as the principal contractor for the FMS programme.
