Comtech’s subsidiary TeleCommunication Systems has been awarded a $2.5bn contract to provide US federal agencies with an opportunity to purchase commercial satellite communication (SATCOM) services.

The latest General Service Administration (GSA) Complex Commercial SATCOM Solutions (CS3) indefinite delivery / indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract is the successor to the Custom SATCOM Solutions (CS2).

Under the multiple-awardee contract, the US federal agencies will be able to purchase SATCOM services through the GSA for the next ten years.

Comtech Telecommunications president and CEO Fred Kornberg said: “I’m very proud that our team was once again awarded this significant contract vehicle that provides our Department of Defense and federal civilian agency customers the opportunity to purchase our SATCOM solutions and products.”

The GSA is tasked with providing tools, equipment, and non-tactical vehicles to the US military.

The agency also provides state and local governments with law enforcement, firefighting and rescue equipment, as well as disaster recovery products and services.

Earlier this month, Comtech Mobile Datacom, also a subsidiary of Comtech Telecommunications, secured a contract to provide the US Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) with Blue Force Tracking (BFT-1) aviation terminals.

Valued at around $4.2m, the contract requires Comtech to supply AVX-06-203 aviation satellite communication transceivers to the DLA.

Comtech Telecommunications develops systems and provides services for advanced communications solutions.

The company sells its products to a diverse customer base in the global commercial and government communications markets.
