Brugg Kabel AG is an established cable manufacturing company. Since 1985 we have been producing fiber optic telecommunication cables for numerous applications - among other products. In the late nineties, upon request, we moved into the military sector with F/O Tactical Field Cable Systems for harsh environments. Our military products portfolio includes all passive components needed to deploy a communication line in the field, such as cable assemblies with all state-of-the-art military and industrial connector types, backpacks and reels for transportation, fittings and masts, measurement equipment and field-repair-kits. To reduce the risk of losing connections to an absolute minimum on vitally important information transmission lines, Brugg Kabel AG, Switzerland has developed and now manufactures the highly sophisticated and unique BRUGG MILLE metallic fiber optic cable system.

The BRUGG MILLE cable system has been technically specified and designed together with leading manufacturers of military equipment and has already been successfully introduced and deployed in various applications, such as fire control systems, ground control systems, line of sight communication systems, security and surveillance systems and radar control systems.

METALLIC FIBER OPTIC CABLES

Due to the metallic construction of the protection tube and the tensile strength of member elements, the sensitive fibers are doubly protected to the maximum against all outside physical influences. Heat resistant to very high temperatures, with maximum crush and impact resistance, excellent protection against rodent bites and very high tensile strength make the BRUmil cable the ideal transmission medium in harsh environments such as field deployment applications, battlefield communication lines and disaster control communication. The possible influences of chemicals have also been eliminated thanks to a special coating protecting the metallic armoring against oil and aggressive liquids and gases.

MOBILE COMMUNICATION

Although the fibers are protected by a metallic construction, the cable itself impresses with its very small dimensions and exceptionally low weight. It even outperforms established non-metallic tactical field cables. Thus, up to 1,000mt of cable can easily be wound onto one single backpack reel and be carried to its application destination. With the BRUmil cable (one fiber) weight of less than 20kg per kilometer, very fast and flexible mobile deployment is guaranteed.

MINIMIZED LIFE-CYCLE-COST

This maximum protection against cable breakage brings obvious maintenance advantages, as well as financial advantages. Frequently occurring damage to standard non-metallic cables requires the assembly of new connectors (often combined with high reject quotas) or, in many cases, even the substitution of entire cable reels. With BRUGG MILLE these costs can be reduced significantly.

The cable is available with one, two, four or eight fiber(s) in single or multimode; an eight fiber solution is in development at present. All state-of-the-art connectors from different vendors - i.e. water and dust-proof lens connectors for mobile outdoor deployment as well as standard industry connectors for cable breakouts used in indoor applications - are assembled in clean room facilities. All cable assemblies are individually tested and delivered with measurement specification protocols.

MILITARY CABLING SYSTEM

The complete cabling system includes the most ergonomic, low weight backpacks and reels for field deployment, special reelstands and reels (up to 2,500mt of cable) for car deployment, easy to handle and re-usable fittings for fast installation on the ground or in the air, as well as field-proof measurement equipment and repair kits.

For in-house applications - i.e. the last meters to the active communication equipment - standard protected fiber optic cables with Kevlar strength members can be deployed. They are used as interconnection cables in sheltered environment where no metallic protection is required.

Considering all this, the BRUGG MILLE cable system turns out to be the most sophisticated tactical field cable on today's market, providing the user with the highest possible security against loss of connection on his transmission lines.
