Elbit Systems has been awarded a follow-on contract to supply Iron Fist Active Protection Systems (APS) for enhancements to the US Army's Bradley M2A4E1 infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs).

Valued at about $127m (NIS476.2m), the contract involves supplying APSs to General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems, with execution set to span a period of 34 months.

Elbit Systems Land general manager Yehuda (Udi) Vered said: “This follow-on contract with our strategic partner, GD-OTS, emphasises the high quality of our active protection system and its level of innovation.

“We are proud of our contribution to empowering the US Armed Forces, as well as other NATO customers and our support of the Israeli Defense Forces. We remain committed to advancing cutting-edge solutions that enhance our customers' operational capabilities and support their mission success.”

In May 2024, Elbit Systems secured a contract estimated at about $37m to deliver Iron Fist APS to modernise the US Army’s Bradley M2A4E1 IFVs.

The Iron Fist APS is a Hard Kill system designed to improve the self-defence capabilities of both light and heavy armoured platforms against contemporary battlefield threats.

This system, which is the Israel Defence Force's Second-Generation APS, offering minimal volume, weight, and power requirements.

It equips armoured vehicles with 360-degree protection from various anti-tank threats, including anti-tank rockets, anti-tank guided missiles, uncrewed aircraft systems, and Loitering threats.

It is also effective in both open terrain and complex urban settings.

BAE Systems has been collaborating with the US Army to upgrade the Bradley A4.

The Bradley M2A4E1, which marks the most advanced and survivable configuration to date, features the enhancements of the A4 variant plus an Active Protection System, an improved gunner sight, and more.

In 2023, the US Department of Defence modified a contract with BAE Systems for the production of M2A4 and M7A4 Bradley armoured fighting vehicles.

BAE Systems' engagement in producing Bradley vehicles for the US Army dates back to 2018.
