The UK Ministry of Defence has awarded a contract to WFEL to supply a new medium girder bridge (MGB) along with associated support services.

The MGB is a 31m-long tactical military bridge, which can be used by the armed forces in conflict zones and during natural disasters.

MGB units allow easy transportation and can be quickly configured for most tactical bridging requirements.

The system includes engineered piers, pontoons and ferries, and requires minimal manpower to deploy the bridge.

Under the £2m ($2.9m) contract. work will be carried out at the company’s bridge refurbishment facility in Heaton Chapel.

To date, WFEL has supplied the UK MoD with a total of 533 MGB units.
