The aerospace, defence & security industry’s overall hiring activity declined 0.47% when compared with April 2022.

Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 13% share of the global aerospace, defence & security industry’s hiring activity in May 2022, down 0.97% over the last three-month average share.

According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of May 2022 were 8.03% lower when compared with the previous month.

The decrease was a result of 20.38% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers drive aerospace, defence & security IT hiring activity

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 44.47% emerged as the top IT occupation in the aerospace, defence & security hiring activity in May 2022, a 10.05% decline over the previous month. Computer and Information Research Scientists came in second with a share of 33.07% in May 2022, down 15.22% over the previous month.

The other prominent IT roles include Database and Network Administrators and Architects with a 12.6% share in May 2022, a decline of 6.97% over the previous month, and Computer and Information Analysts with a 4.37% share in May 2022 and a drop of 8.33% over April 2022.

Top five aerospace, defence & security companies by recruitment activity in May 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 12.85% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global aerospace, defence & security industry during May 2022 over April 2022.

The Boeing posted 880 IT jobs in May 2022 and registered a drop of 16.59% over the previous month, followed by Lockheed Martin with 483 jobs and a 13.6% decline. Leidos Holdings with 443 IT jobs and Northrop Grumman with 418 jobs, recorded a 19.6% decline and a 4.13% drop, respectively, while Raytheon Technologies recorded a 5.6% rise with 245 job postings during May 2022.

Regional composition of IT hiring in aerospace, defence & security industry

North America emerged as the leading region in the global aerospace, defence & security IT hiring activity in May 2022 with a 78.09% share, which marked an 11.14% drop over the previous month.

Europe stood next with 11.03%, registering an 8.83% month-on-month decline. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with a 9.99% share and a 12.61% drop over April 2022.

In the fourth place was Middle East & Africa with a share of 0.57% and a month-on-month rise of 4.55%. South & Central America stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 0.32%, registering a 38.1% decrease over the previous month.
