Program management for military dozers, loaders and construction equipment
Caterpillar’s Governmental and Defense Products (G&DP) team is responsible for providing Caterpillar products and services to the US military, civilian governmental agencies and allied militaries receiving foreign military financing from the US Government.
A major part of the G&DP team’s role is to provide program management for large, multi-year contracts like the US Army’s family of dozers and family of loaders, the US Navy family of construction equipment, and US Army / US Navy / USMC motor grader programs.
Often these programs require significant engineering design work including military modifications such as armored cabs, aerial delivery via parachute, helicopter slingloading, black-out lighting, and military-style lift and tiedowns. Our 100+ staff are experienced at integrating the military-unique designs/specifications, providing military unique publications, developing and providing training and providing worldwide product support throughout the life of the equipment.

Customized military construction equipment and simulators
The US military’s fleet of Caterpillar construction equipment includes 120M graders; D6K/D6T/D7R/D8T/D9R bulldozers; 924H and 966H wheel loaders; 277C multi-terrain loaders; 613C/621G wheeled tractor scrapers and water distributors; 320DL excavators; 963D track loaders; 770 rigid frame trucks; 730 articulated dump trucks; 420D/E backhoe loaders, CS-433C, CS-56, PS-150D and CB-534D rollers; 815F high-speed compactors; AP655D pavers; and 10K all-terrain fork lifts. This entire fleet has been custom-designed to meet the US military’s special needs.
Many of the militaries worldwide now require armored crew protection kits (CPK) on their construction equipment. Caterpillar’s armored CPKs provide the operator with 360° protection, including the roof and the floor. These kits have transparent armor that has been designed to provide excellent operator visibility of the machine and surrounding work area.
Caterpillar and its G&DP team have also developed a family of virtual trainers that can compliment your training requirements.
Military construction equipment diesel and natural-gas engines
Caterpillar diesel and natural-gas engines provide power from 5bhp to 21,715bhp and are used in mobile power applications, such as standby generator sets and as prime power in many remote installations around the world. Wide arrays of military support and combat vehicles throughout the world are Caterpillar-powered. Marine engines are offered as integrated propulsion systems, ships service, emergency generators and auxiliary power units.

Caterpillar’s G&DP team works closely with deploying units and Cat dealers at contingency locations to establish a parts stock which supports their equipment in the field.
