ARX Robotics UK has successfully demonstrated the operational potential of its GEREON uncrewed ground vehicles (UGVs) during Project Convergence-Capstone 6 (PC-C6), the largest experiment to date in the US Army’s ongoing campaign to modernise land warfare capabilities.  

The trial, held across a month at the National Training Center in Fort Irwin, California, involved allied military teams from the US, UK, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand.

The British company took part in both combat validation and experimental missions during the exercise, deploying eight GEREON UGVs alongside the UK’s Experimentation and Trials Group, 11 Brigade, and 3rd Deep Recce Strike Brigade.  

According to ARX Robotics UK, its systems operated around the clock during PC-C6, supporting British soldiers in a range of battlefield scenarios. 

The GEREON vehicles carried out tasks including intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, electronic warfare, counter-uncrewed aircraft system operations, logistics resupply, and casualty evacuation.  

Throughout these trials, ARX Robotics’ vehicles completed all training and battlefield scenarios at Fort Irwin, demonstrating remote operation across challenging desert terrain while maintaining connectivity with allied communications and command networks. 

The robots were fitted with sensors and payloads such as L3Harris’ electronic warfare technology, MyDefence’s counter-drone sensors, and Overview’s targeting and reconnaissance equipment.  

Data generated by these systems was successfully integrated into brigade, division, and corps-level allied networks, validating the GEREON platform’s role in wider force structures. 

British Army Experimentation & Trials Group (ETG) commander Colonel Jim Howard OBE said: “Project Convergence-Capstone 6 provides a valuable opportunity to test how the British Army integrates autonomous and uncrewed systems into land operations alongside existing networks and capabilities, within a multinational corps-level event.  

“This experimentation is central to delivering the Chief of the General Staff’s 20-40-40 vision and understanding how autonomous systems can generate greater mass, reach and operational effect.” 

As part of the British sustainment experimentation line, ARX Robotics UK also used the exercise to explore support and logistics for UGV fleets. This included powering the GEREON vehicles using a Plasan ATeMM mobile energy platform and assessing compatibility with the Army’s new hybrid support vehicle.

Trials focused on solutions for recharging and maintaining robotic assets during extended field operations. 

PC-C6 was aimed at testing the US Army’s Next Generation Command and Control framework and enhancing interoperability among allied militaries. Findings and feedback from the exercise will contribute to future decisions on capability development and procurement.  

ARX Robotics UK plans to apply the operational lessons from PC-C6 to advance the GEREON platform, develop its Mithra operating system, and inform new approaches to software-defined ground autonomy.
