The cooperation will involve technical work to integrate Hanwha’s CGR-080, CTM-MR and CTM-290 guided missiles onto Thales’ X-Fire launchers.

Hanwha’s CGR-080 is a 239mm guided rocket capable of reaching targets at an approximate distance of 80km.

The CTM-MR missile has a medium-range of around 160km, while the CTM-290 offers tactical ballistic capability for ranges up to 290km.

According to company statements, when integration is completed, these systems are expected to enable users to carry out precision short-, medium-, and long-range strikes using the X-Fire platform.

Thales, which developed the X-Fire ground-based launcher with Soframe, has already conducted initial demonstration firings of the platform on 20 May 2026.

The launcher is said to be capable of firing a wide variety of long-range munitions, and its mobility and ability to deploy quickly have been highlighted by the companies. It has also undergone training evaluations.

Thales Vehicles and Tactical Systems vice president Julien Assoun said: “The MoU strengthens our partnership and enhances long-range precision strike capabilities to reinforce collaboration on the international market.

“Together, we will deliver flexible and interoperable solutions to meet the current operational needs in deep strike.”

The agreement extends Hanwha’s collaboration with European defence firms. Through this partnership with Thales, Hanwha seeks to deepen its connections with the French defence sector and explore additional joint projects in France and across Europe.

Hanwha Aerospace European Business Team head Kyoung-hoon Kang said: “This MoU is a first step toward integrating Hanwha Aerospace’s guided missiles with Thales’s launchers.

“We are committed to expanding our cooperation with French and European defence companies and to building long-term relationships with local industry.”
