The French Direction Générale de l’Armement (DGA) has conducted the first lock-on-before launch (LOBL) firing of the MMP medium-range missile from Jaguar armoured reconnaissance and combat vehicle (EBRC).

The firing, which was carried out at Land Techniques Test Centre on 14 April, saw the participation of MBDA and Nexter. It was part of the Jaguar qualification.

The missile system was fired from the retractable pod on the Jaguar EBRC and hit a fixed target. This marks the first stage of the integration of MMP onto JAGUAR.

Thales and MBDA said ‘the integration of MMP onto Jaguar is being carried out in stages during the qualification’.

Jaguar 6×6 EBRC is developed by a consortium of Nexter Systems, Thales, and Renault Trucks Defense, primarily for the French Army.

MBDA battlefield sector sales and business development head Frédéric Michaud said: “This firing marks an important first step of the work conducted with Nexter to develop the Jaguar turret and integrate the MMP into a weapon system built on the latest technological solutions.

During the test firing, the Optrolead PASEO battlefield surveillance sight interfaced with the MMP missile, providing day and night optronic acquisition in real-time.

This offers better long-range observation and identification capabilities to the Jaguar EBRC.

The Jaguar vehicles offer high protection, increased mobility and enhanced firepower for land-based forces.

Nexter Jaguar project manager David Marquette said: “This marks a major milestone, demonstrating the technical skills of our teams in designing and developing an operational capability unlike any other in the world.”
